Who is Zak Champagne?

 

Zak believes that each and every student has important mathematical ideas and works to share his passion and love for mathematics with teachers around the country.

Zachary Champagne is a math education enthusiast and a big fan of teachers and the incredible work that they do. Zak began his career as an elementary school teacher with a specialization in math and science in Jacksonville, Florida. During this time, he received many state and national awards for excellence in teaching, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), Duval County Teacher of the Year, and Finalist for Florida Teacher of the Year.

After his time in the classroom, Zak spent six years as a researcher at the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM) at Florida State University. He then served as the Director of Teacher Leadership at the Jacksonville Public Education Fund where he supported the incredible teachers in Jacksonville, Florida.

Most importantly, after 21 years in education, Zak returned to the classroom in the fall of 2019 as a Lower Elementary Teacher (grades 3 and 4), Director of Mathematics, and Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) at The Discovery School.

Most of what gets shared on this site are his learnings from the incredible students and teachers he gets to learn with and from.
